Tis the season for grilling! It’s time for burgers, steaks, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. Vegetables get that smoky flavor and meat gets a beautiful sear. If you’ve never had a grill before, or you’re thinking about replacing your old one, you may notice that there are a lot of choices out there. One of easiest ways to narrow down your choices is by heat source. There are gas grills, charcoal grills, and electric grills. So what’s the difference?

Gas Grills

Gas grills are highly popular. The grill is heated via a gas line, and it’s easy to use in slightly inclement weather. Gas grills also have the advantage of being easy to use and they take less time to come to temperature. However, gas grills don’t have as much of that smoky flavor that you can get from a charcoal grill.

Charcoal Grills

Charcoal grills are also quite popular, but they are also notoriously fiddly. Using charcoal can take a lot of practice to get temperatures that are easier to control. You can use lighter fluid if you must, but try and use a chimney starter instead. You won’t have worry about the possibility of lighter fluid flavor.

Electric Grills

Okay, so admittedly electric grills don’t give you that smoky grilled flavor, but it is appropriate for people who want to cook outside but need to keep the grill closer to the building. If your building codes don’t allow for gas or charcoal, electric is serviceable, but we recommend one of the other two methods first.
